Each of the following products in our collection is made to give you lasting results without complicated prep or mixing:

Pure Tung Oil

A 100% natural, original-source Chinese tung oil with no additives. It penetrates deep into the wood and cures to a tough, food-safe finish that stands up to water, daily wear, and regular use. A great choice for salad bowls, end-grain cutting boards, concrete countertops, and rough-cut flooring.

Dark Tung Oil

A rich, tinted version of pure tung oil that adds depth and warmth without hiding the grain. It works well on new rough cut wood and is perfect for reviving weathered wood that need deeper color and a more restored look.

Half and Half

A ready-to-use blend of pure tung oil and citrus or pine solvent. The thinner consistency helps the oil soak into dense hardwoods and makes application easier on large surfaces. Ideal for most projects, including floors, butcher blocks, and indoor furniture, where easy absorption matters.

Dark Half

This oil blends dark tung oil with a citrus or pine solvent to provide smooth coverage and a warm finish that works well on walnut, oak, reclaimed wood, and other darker projects.

Outdoor Defense Oil

Made for outdoor use with ingredients that help wood handle sun, rain, and temperature swings. It protects decks, fences, outdoor furniture, planters, and other exterior pieces while keeping a natural look.

Hemp Oil

A natural, plant-based finish that is food-safe and gentle on porous or dry wood. It soaks in fast, adds a soft sheen, and is a safe option for wooden toys, kitchen tools, antique furniture, and sensitive surfaces.

Cutting Board Oil

A petroleum-free, food-safe blend made for wooden cutting boards, butcher blocks, serving boards, and kitchen tools. It nourishes dry wood, adds moisture resistance, and helps prevent cracks, dryness, and staining from daily use.

See individual product pages for detailed application tips, curing time, and size options.

How Wood Oil Works

RMP Finishes wood oil works by penetrating the wood’s fibers and polymerizing as they cure (excluding our Cutting Board Oil, which does not polymerize). This process creates a strong, flexible barrier that protects from the inside out. Unlike sealers that sit on the surface, these oils bond with the grain to resist water, UV, and daily wear.

Once fully cured, usually in about 30 days, they’re safe to use on surfaces that touch food. You’ll get a natural matte finish that won’t crack, flake, or feel plastic.

FAQs About Wood Oil

Wood oils, also referred to as penetrating oil finishes, soak into the wood grain instead of sitting on the surface. This helps reduce peeling and cracking over time. They also leave a natural-looking finish, without the heavy shine or plastic-like coating you get from many standard finishes.

You’ll get water resistance after about 7–10 days. Full cure takes up to 30 days, depending on temperature, humidity, and the number of coats.

Yes. All RMP wood oils are food-contact safe, making them ideal for cutting boards, utensils, counters, and more.

Absolutely. All of our tung oil-based products can be mixed or layered.
Mixing: Mixing the oils together is as simple as pouring them into a shared container at your desired ratio, then applying to your surface as one.
Layering: Our oils can be layered, but it is important to note that you should use thinned versions over unthinned and not the opposite. This ensures proper absorption of the oils into the wood.

No. Our original source pure tung oil stays clear and resists yellowing or mold growth, even in humid environments.

Remove old finishes and clean the surface. Light sanding (150–220 grit) helps oil absorb better. Always wipe away excess oil after application.

3–5 coats for most indoor use. For outdoor wood or high-traffic areas, 5–7 coats offer better protection. Each wood type will absorb varying amounts of oil, so pay attention to the wood and how well it is absorbing between coats.
