High-Quality Pearl White Paint for DIY Projects
When Bright White Feels Too Bright
A hard, brilliant white can work against you. It bounces light around the room, highlights every brush stroke, washes out the wood underneath, and leaves warm spaces feeling colder than you intended. Pearl white paint takes a gentler path. Its chalky matte surface absorbs light rather than reflecting it, so cabinet doors, trim, paneling, and built-in shelving feel calm and settled instead of stark.
Where Pearl Feels Right at Home
Pearl suits pieces you want admired for their shape rather than their color. Picture a hall bench, a nursery dresser, kitchen island cabinetry, or picture frames waiting on the mantel. It sits happily beside raw wood and warm brass, and it layers under or over deeper milk paint colors for a worn-through, distressed look. Rub the edges back with a damp cloth, and Pearl lets the layer beneath peek through.
A Size for Every Kind of Project
Testers let you test the color on a scrap board first, and gallons are for cabinetry and full walls. Each size arrives as powder, so you mix only what the job needs.
What Pearl Brings to Your Finish
Because Pearl is milk paint, it soaks into porous surfaces instead of sitting on top like a plastic skin. You get a velvety hand feel and an even matte sheen that accepts wax or oil beautifully when you seal. Color builds as you work, so a second coat deepens the white without ever looking painted on.
Why DIYers Keep Coming Back to RMP Finishes
RMP Finishes has been mixing color for families, hobbyists, woodworkers, and full-time craftspeople for many decades, and Pearl carries the same clean ingredient list as every other shade we make. Order a tester size if you are still deciding, or go straight for the size your whole project calls for. Either way, you are painting with a shade our own team reaches for in the shop.

Versatile Color and Finish
Choose from 56 shades of Real Milk Paint® to create colorful projects that fit well within your home or outdoor decor. From historical to modern, with a little bit of everything in between, our milk paint has you covered on color. We base our hues on traditional paint colors for easy use on furniture and furnishings you’re restoring, and the rustic matte finish enables easy distressing when you want to add a timeworn look to special pieces.
Simple to Use
Mixing Real Milk Paint® for use is quick and simple — just add water at a 1:1 ratio, shake or stir it well, then wait for the foam to dissipate before painting. Adding our Anti-Foaming Agent to the formula during mixing lets you use our milk paint right away, however, if you’re in a hurry. If you need your color thicker or thinner, experiment a bit with the amount of water you need to get the correct consistency. Our milk paint is water-based, so it cleans up in a snap with just soap and water, and it doesn’t require use of a primer before application to save money on materials and speed up the task at hand.
Easy to Customize
If you need special colors, Real Milk Paint® is simple to mix into custom shades, whether you mix our powdered formulations together or choose to mix our base formulation with pigment powders. Our milk paint even layers well over latex paints or other non-absorbent when you mix it with Ultra-Bond Adhesion Promoter, and it also works well on outdoor DIY projects when paired with our Outdoor Additive.
Convenient to Topcoat
Finishing projects painted with our Real Milk Paint® is simple — and you don’t even need to go further than the Real Milk Paint Co. to find them. No matter the finish you desire, we have you covered with nontoxic products that topcoat your surfaces thanks to the absorbency of Real Milk Paint®. For instance, if you want the shine of wax with the protection of oil, our Wood Wax offers an excellent option for both raw wood and milk-painted surfaces. Want a low luster sheen that doesn’t distract from the unique look of milk paint? Then our Soft Wax, which is available in clear and tinted versions, is a perfect choice. For a water-resistant and excellent protection on food-contact surfaces, try our Pure Tung Oil to seal your Real Milk Paint®.
For an easy-to-wash topcoat over your Real Milk Paint®, try our Finishing Creams. These low-VOC formulations come in dead flat, low sheen and gloss finishes for decorative versatility, protecting the painted surface without changing the color. Our Finishing Glazes, on the other hand, do change the color, lending a hint of depth and warmth to milk-painted surfaces with their espresso, mocha and mahogany tints. If you want to add special effects to your Real Milk Paint® project during the sealing process, try our Natural Crackle Paint Finish for a trendy distressed look.
Why Our Milk Paint is Powder
Our milk paint comes in powder form for several key reasons. By manufacturing milk paint as a powder, we extend its shelf life significantly—unlike pre-mixed paints, it doesn’t spoil or dry out, giving you more time to use it without waste. This form also offers flexibility; you can mix only as much paint as needed for your project, ensuring minimal product waste. Additionally, the absence of “water weight” in the powdered formula reduces shipping costs and carbon emissions, making it a more eco-friendly choice compared to traditional paints. The manufacturing process itself is clean and sustainable, using natural, nontoxic ingredients derived from milk protein, plants, and minerals.
Pearl Paint FAQs
Is Pearl a true white?
Not quite, and that is exactly the appeal. Pearl reads as a gentle off-white with a cool gray undertone, so it stays soft next to warm woods and never glares under bright lighting.
Can I use Pearl white paint on kitchen cabinets?
Yes, and it is one of the most popular uses for this particular shade. Pearl works best on bare or freshly stripped wood, giving doors and drawer fronts a soft, hand-finished look. Cabinets see plenty of hands, so plan on sealing them once your color has dried and settled.
Will Pearl look exactly the same across a large surface?
Expect gentle variation. Milk paint pulls into the surface at slightly different rates, which gives Pearl its handmade, aged character.
Can I adjust the shade of Pearl?
You certainly can. Blend in just a touch of a darker powder before mixing to push Pearl grayer, or thin it with extra water for a soft wash that lets the wood grain show right through. Test on a scrap piece first, so you land exactly where you want it.
